The New Orleans Women and Children's Shelter (NOWCS) Outreach Program was started by two LSU medical students whose goal is to make health care more accessible to under-represented members of the New Orleans community. Find out how you can contribute to the future of a woman or child in need through donations of money, medical supplies, over-the-counter medication, or your volunteer time. Please contact our Co-Directors, Cailyn Robertson and Stephanie Lee for more information on how you can help!

Current & Future PROGRAMS

Our Mission

The NOWCS Outreach Program addresses the health care and health education needs of women and children living in poverty. Through educational programs and health clinics, we aim to encourage New Orleans women and their children to take-charge of their health while transitioning to self-sufficiency.

We are currently fundraising to expand our number of health education programs and clinics.  We are planning to provide CPR training, yoga and mindfulness classes, cooking tutorials, mental health and parenting resources, and a self defense course in addition to our usual oral hygiene and family health clinics. Please consider donating to the NOWCS Outreach; we need your help with our busy semester ahead!

We encourage volunteers to come to NOWCS with us and see first-hand the families we help. Join the 215+ LSUHSC students already volunteering to teach a health education program or devote a Monday or Wednesday evening to working among other inter-professional students in the NOWCS Outreach Clinic. LSU doctors, residents, nurse practitioners, and dentists can volunteer to oversee a clinic. Any other resources are always greatly appreciated.
